Turkey requests new fighter jets from the US

Turkey has made a request to the US to buy 40 Lockheed Martin-made F-16 fighter jets and nearly 80 modernisation kits for its existing warplanes. The NATO ally is looking to modernise its Air Force after the purchase of F-35 jets fell through, according to sources familiar with the matter. The deal – worth billions – is still working its way through the Foreign Military Sales process which is subject to approval by the US State Department as well as the US Congress, which can block deals.
